This role is design-focused, with a strong emphasis on translating ideas into buildable, well documented components for a fully asynchronous, globally distributed engineering team. &nbsp;As a senior member of the team, you'll help raise the bar for craft and design system maturity with strategic and systems-level thinking. You're curious, receptive to feedback, and genuinely enjoy working closely with a team. </p> <p>You will report to our Director, Web UX Design in&nbsp; the US. This role is eligible for remote work within Costa Rica. </li> <li>Be a self-sufficient problem solver that can navigate ambiguity while balancing a mix of projects of varying size and urgency, often with overlapping priority</li> <li>Support other duties as assigned</li> </ul> <p><strong>You have:</strong></p> <ul> <li>5+ years of experience designing web or product experiences, ideally within a CMS driven or component based environment</li> <li>Experience preparing detailed specs and redlines for engineering handoff, particularly in an asynchronous or distributed team setting</li> <li>Comfort working directly in Jira or a similar ticketing system alongside a development team, and following a ticket through to completion</li> <li>Familiarity with design systems, tokens, and component libraries, and genuine interest in maintaining and extending one</li> <li>Understanding of accessibility (WCAG) standards and how they apply to web design</li> <li>Strong visual design skills, with an eye for detail and consistency</li> <li>Applied understanding of core design principles: hierarchy, typography, color, and layout</li> <li>Strong interaction design and prototyping skills</li> <li>High degree of proficiency with Figma</li> <li>Exposure to usability testing, user research, or working from research findings</li> <li>Basic understanding of HTML and CSS, and curiosity about how designs get built</li> <li>Experience leveraging AI tools in your daily design workflow</li> <li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative, team first approach with openness and resilience to feedback</li> <li>Degree in Design or a related field, or equivalent professional experience</li> <li>A portfolio that shows strong UI/UX craft</li> </ul> <p><strong>Nice to have:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Adobe design tools (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop)</li> <li>Experience with motion (Adobe After Effects, Lottie)</li> <li>Familiarity with front end development concepts or a front end coding background</li> <li>Experience with AI assisted and generative design tools, such as Figma Make, Lovable, or similar</li> </ul> <p><strong>Perks &amp; Benefits:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Fully paid Health &amp; Life insurance for full-time employees and family members</li> <li>Monthly stipend to support your work and productivity</li> <li>12 days paid Vacation + Flexible Time Away Program</li> <li>20 weeks fully paid Maternity Leave</li> <li>12 weeks fully paid Paternity/Adoption Leave</li> <li>Personal paid Volunteer Day to support our community</li> <li>Opportunities for professional growth and development including access to LinkedIn Learning online courses</li> <li>Company Funded Perks including a counseling membership and your own personal Smartsheet account</li> <li>Teleworking options from any registered location in Costa Rica (role specific)</li> </ul><div class="content-conclusion"><p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Get to Know Us:</strong></p> <p>At Smartsheet, your ideas are heard, your potential is supported, and your contributions have real impact.
